I’ve missed a couple of weeks mainly because I’ve been ‘full steam ahead’ on the new version of my webcomic Solicitations. It’s now in full color, which requires quite a bit more work. Plus I’m inking it myself so it’s quite a project. But I’m learning a lot and it’s a lot of fun making comics. Even though I do want to throw my ruler, pencil, or whatever I have in my hand at the time across the room.
I decided on a two page story format where each section is told in two pages with the second page of course being a sort of cliffhanger. This is very much a shout-out to those classic comics in the UK that implemented this format in comics that had four to five stories in each issue. Also, it does make it quite interesting to write. I’ve conceptualized and blocked the entire story but have to pace it in two page spurts.
I decided to tell the secret origin of Quiver, a character I created. I didn’t know what to do with him so I really didn’t use him at all outside a few appearances this year. Then I had this idea in the shower to take the comic in a completely different direction and now we are in Space Opera territory. I’ve included the first two page arcs below and will continue to add pages to expatNERD.com.

This week I did manage to post some art as part of my Tales from the Sketchbook series. The Legion of Super-Heroes! As you know I blogged about Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes and I just fell in love with this team. I took a sketch I did of Mon-El and extended it to include the other Legionnaires as well as Legion Headquarters. I’m working through Krita and really trying to understand it, especially on tricks to work and color faster. I still have a long way to go with my coloring and inking, but I am happy that it’s getting easier.

And that’s it for this week! As always…
LONG LIVE THE LEGION!
