This week I sat in a three-day training about PowerBI. We used PowerBI in my old position and though I was able to play with it and wrap my head around it, I thought I could use more of an explanation and an understanding why the things are the way they are.
The course I enrolled into was how to actually build the reports not use them. So by the third day my head was spinning. But I actually understood most of it! This was basically a crash course on how to be a data analyst and the sort of work they do and I can even try for the official Microsoft Certificate at the end. Could this be the start of a career change?
Then after one of the days I went back to my expatNERD project and I was at home on the creative end. Boy, if only I could make a living on creating stories and art then I wouldn’t HAVE to do the data track or anything else for that matter. But creative endeavors are hard to pull off. But still, a very interesting glimpse into a life I never had and probably never will.
Back to the creative part of my brain I posed two pieces on the socials this week. First up was a continuation of my Captain America journey in my finished sketchbook, depicting Nick Fury. I decided to have Countess Valentina Allegra de Fontaine join, who is all over those Captain America stories and ends up betraying Fury eventually and becoming a villain. So there’s a bit of spy intrigue in the piece. One last thing to comment is that I am slowly trying to incorporate perspective and those sorts of things in my drawing to continue practicing, with varying degrees of success. If I can’t become proficient in perspective then my project on getting expatNERD to the next level will probably not happen.

Speaking of expatNERD, here’s another piece I did in the house-style. I love 2000ad and quickly found it when I got back into comics way back in 2016. I’ve purchased a bunch of the Case Files and currently have read up to #21 and have everything up to #22 in my pocession. One of my favorite finds was Garth Ennis and the late legend Steve Dillon’s Judge Joyce character. Ennis wrote a hilarious spoof/parody on what Ireland would be like in this dystopian future and Judge Joyce is a product of that. I love the character. Intriguing, Ennis does not like his work on Dredd but I thought it was quite good. Enough that I created some Judge Joyce fan-art. As you can see, he’s enjoying some Lucky Charms for breakfast with a pint of Guinness for the milk. The breakfast of champions.

As you might notice, I misspelled his name on the badge. I do need to work on my attention to detail.
And that’s it for this week! This one came as a surprise as my eyes still haven’t uncrossed from the PowerBI course.
Ciao,
