The Wheel of Time and DC Comics Presents

This week I published two pieces that I created.

First off is Loial, my favorite character in The Wheel of Time series I am currently reading (I am on book seven). I love this big guy. He is an Ogier and in the series Ogiers live for a very long time and come from places called Steddings. They are also master builders and have built many majestic and somewhat magical things. So far Ogier’s come across as gentle creatures though Loial has proved his worth in battle, especially fighting Trollocks. When I close my eyes and picture Loial, this is, more or less, what I see.

My character design of Loial from the Wheel of Time Series

Because he is so big compared to humans, when we see Loial we are always looking at him from below, with him staring down at us with curiosity. Also Loial always has a book in his pocket because he is an avid reader.

Next up is a piece I created for my webcomic Solicitations, currently housed on expatNERD. Every Thursday we have a new comic or comic related recommendation. One week I recommended DC Comics Presents #’s 27-29. DC Comics Presents was a monthly comic that featured Superman teaming up with another hero/villain/character from the DC Universe. My akin to Marvel Team-Up with Spider-man. These three issues are from Lein Wein and Jim Starlin and also feature the first appearance of the DC villain, Mongul. It’s a great three issues series and because of Mongul’s first appearance they can be pricey to pick up but it’s totally worth it.

Because the three issues also feature Supergirl, Martian Manhunter, and the Spectre, I conceptualized and drew a movie-like poster with various poses from the characters, using the house-style I developed for expatNERD.

I hope you enjoyed these and I do hope to post more art soon!

Stay cool
