I am indeed aware that I said I would update every Wednesday. But you know what? That turned out to be not so convenient. So every Thursday it is!
I really can’t believe that I’ve written, drawn, and posted thirty-six ‘chapters’ of my Solicitations webcomic. It feels like yesterday that I was conceptualizing the characters and drawing their respective designs. My goal was simple. Write, draw, and letter ten, then post them to the website and see if I could keep it going.
After the ten were finished I would then do another batch. And once that batch was finished I would do another and so on. The inner thought and feeling that were in my mind and body was that I would burn out, miss a week, and then the whole thing would come crashing down. But that ended up not being the case. My blogging about Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes helped that. I knew the importance of staying ahead of schedule and how to organize my time to meet the deadlines.
I’m sure of where I’m going with the strip but the next step is going to be a steep one. I hope the reveal will come before Christmas, if I can stay on track.
I managed to post two pieces of art this week around the socials. First up is Superman from my “Tales of the Sketchbook Series” I’m doing.

I really got into the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited animated series. I totally nerded out and even decided to dig deeper by listening to the quite excellent JLUCast from Chris and Cindy Franklin. I would watch an episode(s) of the show and then listen to their commentary, which is quite excellent. They are good hosts, very passionate, and are quite hilarious with their back and forth banter.
As I mentioned around the socials, Hereafter is a two-parter that has our buddy Superman being pushed to an apocalyptic future. Now, you would think since he’s a boyscout that not even an apocalyptic future would get in the way of his ‘no killing’ rule. Well that is not the case because as we join him on the second part of the two-part storyline, he is attacked by mutant wolves. Supes kills their leader and skins off its coat (off screen of course), effectively becoming the new leader of the pack. That is hardcore. Plus Superman gets a sword and that visual just packed a lot of punch that it stayed with me.
Hereafter was also written by the late legend Dwayne McDuffie who defined the show. He would become the showrunner when it turned into the Justice League Unlimited and his contribution and influence on DC’s Super-Heroes cannot be properly stated nor communicated. Thus, I won’t try to do so here. But he was a legend and you can still feel his influence from the content that is produced today.
Next up is a piece I did on expatNERD under the guise of Franka, in the expatNERD house-style.

I have been collecting the Fantastic Four for a while now and have a pretty good collection going. One of my favorite storylines is the “Son of Doom” written by Marv Wolfman and drawn by Keith Pollard. The story concludes in issue #200 and it’s a lot of fun. It pushes Reed to the limit and throughout the Thing really just wants to punch the crap out of Doctor Doom but never gets the chance. So I thought I would give him one here.
I am happy with it but I do feel like I could’ve made Thing’s swing a little more dynamic and dramatic. I definitely need to work on my gesturing.
That’s it for this week! I hope to see you next week and until then, stay frosty.
