Meet the Ranzz’s and The Long Goodbye!

Life has been busy as we are roaring up to Christmas. Lots of presents needed to be bought, the Dutch courses continued, and I finally was able to get back into Ludosport and continue my Form 2 training. I am very far behind because I just couldn’t make the Friday evenings. In short, life gets in the way sometimes.

Luckily, I still managed to keep up with my Solicitations comic and managed to complete two pages on time. The penultimate chapter, titled The Long Goodbye! featured the Princess, another character in my Secret Origin of Quiver storyline. You can see the two pages below:

I’m still creating the physical pages, going from layouts to pencils to physical inks. The inking is getting better but is, of course, not even close to being on the level of what the professionals can do. BUT, I am seeing a trajectory upward and I’m understanding what you need to do to produce good inks and why. If you compare these two pages from the first two pages you would undoubtedly notice sturdier lines that need to show up in coloring phase. I still think the writing allows it to not fully collapse on itself, but man, making comics is hard. Luckily it still is a lot of fun to do.

To practice inking, I’m also inking some of the revisits of my sketchbook that I’m doing. I’ve finished all the drawings and now I’m moving to the inking phase. I have about three pieces to go, one of which is the Ranzz siblings. I absolutely love the Legion of Super-Heroes (as you can tell from the blog I did on Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes) and it also just so happens that I’m going through all the issues of Who’s Who from DC. And since I made it to the “L’s”, it’s full of the Legion of Super-Heroes, three of which are Lightning Lad, Light Lass, and Lightning Lord. As part of a drawing I decided to combine all three of them since they are siblings. It’s a crazy little backstory. You can find the colored image as well as the original inks below:

And that’s it for this week! Hopefully I can get that final page finished that will complete the Secret Origin of Quiver next week and right in time before Christmas.

Until then, stay frosty.
