Spring is here and I’m lovin’ it. It’s a pretty big deal when the sun shines after that cold, dark, damp Dutch winter. After being here for fifteen years I almost did that Dutch thing when I saw the sun again after a long time; close my eyes and look up, standing awkwardly for a good ten to twenty minutes while people walk around me.

Almost.

I haven’t been gone for a month but it’s almost been about that. My projects are still in full-swing but I got to the point where I had to make some decisions and, instead of doing like ten of them at the same time, to focus on two of them and keep working on them until they’re completed. Then progress to the next two. I felt like that one guy from the special effects company who got behind on Star Wars, and when George Lucas got back after shooting Star Wars was royally pissed when nothing was done. Then they had to hire someone to put little bits of tape on the wall to keep him on track so he could actually finish it.

So a couple of updates.

Solicitations Season Two

This one is taking waaaaaaay longer than I thought. But that’s because I’m actually doing it in the correct way. When I switched over to color and did full pages, none of the pages were really up to par because I forced it. So this time, I’m taking my time. I did the character designs, still need to do some background designs, and I am almost finished with the second draft of the script. Once the second draft is finished, I will do a third and then I think it’ll be where I want it. To tell you the truth I have no idea when this thing will launch. expatNERD.com is still online and will continue to be so. I will probably add some assets here and there for some updates but I’m not in a rush. Like I said, I want to do this one right.

Sam Blue’s One-Page Murder Mysteries

This is yet another webcomic in the works! I’ve been reading a lot of Ms. Tree and within Ms. Tree you had Mike Myst’s Minute Mysteries and I absolutely loved them. Mike Collins and Terry Beatty did some beautiful stuff here and because I like beauty so much I always decide to copy it. The concept is simple. It’s a one-page Murder Mystery where all the clues are there for you to solve. Then there will be a page turner where you get the solution. Done. I’m drawing (yes actually drawing!) the first one. I finished the layouts and am now doing the individual panel sketches before I move to the big piece of paper. Also, within Ms. Tree, they experimented with a two to three color palette. Mine will be only one though. Blue. Get it?

Donuts

Yes, you read that right. DONUTS. I will be making Donuts and selling them at various places. I’m currently working on the business plan and I’m about a third of the way through. I’m pretty happy about this one because as I go through the idea, it looks like it might work. So I pat myself on the back and then do something else for a while.

And that’s it for the updates! There are other things but since living in the Netherlands is like living in the suburbs of the world, those things are probably not very exciting. But I did manage to draw Metamorpho. And when I did I kept singing the song.
